Is Bigfoot Real? Or Something Else?

The ongoing debate of whether Bigfoot is real or not goes on and on and on. There is all kinds of theories out there. Some swear he is real, others say he's not.

There are many questions yet to be answered. Why is it the field cameras don't get a picture of the big fella? Why hasn't anyone found legitimate hair samples that show his DNA? When people see him and take pictures, and film of him, why is it always so unclear, fuzzy? Camera's these days are so good that it's almost hard to take a bad picture.

Many of you have likely seen the show "Finding Bigfoot". These guys make sensational claims as fact. Why are they the only one's to be privy to the "truth" about Bigfoot? We have all heard the claims. "That's definitely a squatch, that is what they eat", and other crazy comments. While some of the "theories" may in fact be true, I have to wonder if this show is to make fun of people who believe in Bigfoot.

If there is truly a primate animal out there then maybe the "calls" they do, make some sense. In fact it is likely that they do get legitimate responses. To some extent I believe this to be true. But the result often ends up being a miss identification. It is easy to say that is Bigfoot, when we hear a strange sounds that we do not recognize.

Case and point. Have you heard the recent recording of "Bigfoot" in Umatilla County? You can check out the story and sound here:  http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2013/01/strange_sounds_coming_from_a_s.html
You can also see similar sounds recorded on You Tube. They sound like Coyote's to me.

No matter what it is,or isn't we all have a story to tell. As promised I will tell of my encounter. So here it is:

Many of you who know me know that I spend a lot of time working and playing in the mountains. As a matter of fact I basically grew up in the mountains. I am able to see things out there most will never see.Now that being said I have had two encounters with Bigfoot. Both times I was with someone.

My most recent encounter was the summer of 2010. My brother and I were near the head waters of the Grand Ronde River in N E Oregon. It was a week night and we were the only camp up there. We were sitting there by the fire around ten o'clock in the evening. I told my brother I should make one of those Bigfoot calls and see if we get a response. He chuckled and said go for it. So I did. We sat there quietly and listened. Shortly later I heard a tree knock, and then another. We were starring at the fire at the time, and when I heard it I glanced over at him and he looked back. I said did you hear that? He said what did you hear? I said a tree knock. He said that was what he heard. We decided it was time to go to bed.

Was it Bigfoot? It is no doubt we will never know for sure. Even though it is unlikely to be another person camping up this canyon, anything is possible. But I will say we were the only camp up there. We had been there for several days and there had been no one who came up and set up camp, above us or below us. It is possible someone could have backpacked down from the mountains above, but I really don't think someone would have. It is thick, tough hiking in there.

My second encounter was an actual sighting. I will post this sometime this week. It is a bit creepy. Stay tuned......

In the mean time I would to hear your encounter[s] and whether or not you are a believer. See ya soon

Cabin Fever or Winter Blue's

The cold winter goes on an on an on.  Do you feel down? Tired of the cold? Do you want the rain back?...Really?

The winter blue's or if you prefer to call it cabin fever, It is real. So what can you do to cure them? It can be tough when it's colder then normal, or there is more wind then usual. But here's a few idea's that may help.

Wouldn't you admit when you are busy time moves faster. So the best way to cure the cabin/winter blue's is to be busy. Okay you say doing what. The biggest thing is keep your mind active. You can also keep your hands busy. Just sitting doesn't fix the fever.

Here's some idea's: If you have a sled or a snowmobile you could go out and play in the hills. Some people go skiing/snowboarding. You might be able to go out to dinner with friends and perhaps a movie. So you say I can't afford that. Fair enough, I get that.

If you are home bound you cannot afford to go out, you could put on a movie and put together a puzzle. Get the 1000 piece puzzle. These are great because they eat up idle time and they keep your mind active. Look at the picture you are building and imagine yourself there.

Some like to get lost in a riveting novel, others knit. I, when I can like to have on a movie and tie flies for fishing. Try to create things with your hands that you could sell to others. Be creative.

You also could do your spring cleaning early. That way when the weather warms up you can go and do the outside things.

Have you thought about writing a book or a screen play? This is a great challenge and gets your imagination going. How about poetry?

There are sure to be many other ways to cure the fever/blue's. the bottom line is find ways to stay busy, keep your mind and body active. Before you know it, it will be sunny and warm.

What do you do to cure this winter disease?

Reality show reality check

As many of you know my partner and I were filming a realty show. You can see the trailer here if you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA0e0RWhx40

In the mean while there several shows that hit the tv networks. I won't name the shows, but personally I think they stink. I wont have competitions or treat the "loser" poorly. That's not my style. I want to show you, the one watching the show to see not just the treasure but also to learn the history of the area we are working in. I want it to be intertaining without all the drama and foul language.

At this time, however I am sad to say that my partner has dropped out. He has made some good points about why he want's to give it up. Call me stuborn or stupid, but I still think t would be a good show. But losing my partner I lose a big piece of the show, maybe the whole thing. He was the witty one who makes us all laugh. And maybe he is right, no one will like it or even want to show it. Or the antiquity people would shut us down. Or ban metal detecting for everyone. I don't know.

Losing my partner really bumms me out. However sometimes we have to diversify. A good friend suggested to me that I still film the show, but do it solo. Something along the lines of Survivorman. So I want to ask you, what would you like to see? Should I go solo, or find a new willing partner? I want your feedback and idea's. I want your thoughts, comments, suggestions, or idea's.

Thanks and don't let cabin fever get the best of you!
