False spring

Every year as far back as I can remember we always had a week or two in the middle of winter usually in February where there was at least a week of nice weather. If you look outside it looks warm and then you get the fever.

Spring fever! It's not so much fun to remember that it is still the dead of winter. But not all can be lost. It can be a good time to get out the camping gear and prep it for the coming season. Also we could take a calendar and plan out the spring/summer activities. It's also a good time to set a budget. Good pre planning will make your trip successful and fun, special time.

If  you have the false spring going don't let it get you down just use it as a reminder of better things to come. If you live in a part of the world  where there is feet of snow or not much sunshine, keep your chin up. It seems to me those in the hardest hit parts of the country that don't have a false spring often have a early spring.

Right now out here in the west we are having a false spring. It has been sunny here for a long time. Weeks it seems. We will pay for it one way or another. Either we will remain dry and have an early and bad fire season or we will have a wet summer.

So no matter where in the world you are try not to take for granted  your life or your loved ones. Don't let the weather get you down. There is always hope and better weather just around the corner.

Keep an eye out for the coming posts. As I promised I will restart the fire season in review and also the wildfire diaries. Keep checking back and let me know what else you would like to see. Until next time......

Will the reality show live again?

For those of you who have been following the progress of our reality show, "Treasure Hunters", we would like to update you on what is happening.

Our dream to give you the first episode called "The Desert"

is still very much alive in our hearts. We have tenetive plans this April to go and finish our filming for the show.

We have been doing lots of researrch. One member of our team has found some old maps of the Oregon Manouver. We are super excited about that. We have been studying them and we have learned much about these areas that we didn't know. Needless to say we are very excited about this.

If all goes well we will spend a week in April filming. Then the editing process will start.

For those of you who have been following, or those of you who are new to our idea here is a glimps of what we are trying to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA0e0RWhx40&feature=c4-overview&list=UUapZnnIO0if2ipPzeKNI2EA

We still need another HD camera and some other accesories. This would make our show even better. If not we will still use what we have. If you would like to help fund our project you can by clicking on the Donate link on this blog or contact me at: travisalbrecht@gmail.com.

Something New

I want to say a sunny hello to all of you, my followers. You may have noticed I have posted new merchant adds on the right side of my column. Many people buy from these companies.

I would like to ask for your help. If you are planning to buy from one of these companies, could you go through the link on my blog page? I get a small commission from each purchase that you buy, when using these links. In helping me to do this small favor it helps me to fund this blog, keep it up and running.

I try to find the best deals out there for you and me both. If there is a web site you frequently buy from and would like to see it on my blog, Please let me know if I can get it on there I will.

Also the blog is coming up on 10,000 hits. This is exciting as it is growing. So if you like my blog, by all means please pass on the word. Word of mouth is the best advertiser.

Thanks Have a nice day.

Prepared for a disaster?

So has the short damp cold days got you down? Summer is not to far away. We'll sort of. If you are busy it will be here in no time. So the key is to stay busy. That is the real challenge with the short days.

Here is a short list of idea's. This is actually really important. Take out your emergency pack. You know the one you are supposed to grab on the way out the door in the event of an emergency, or disaster.

Don't do like I have and........we'll, I know where it is.  A natural disaster could happen in a without a moments notice. So we all ( including me) should be always prepared. Ok we get that. Now is a good time to do that. Long slow evenings.

Okay, so go get off your bum and get it out. If you don't have one, shame on you. Do your research on what you need and put it together.  Here is a couple web sites you could use to help you put one together:

  1. Build A Kit | Ready.gov

    www.ready.gov/build-a-kit
Mar 21, 2013 - A disaster supplies kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may ... You may need to survive on your own after an emergency.

    1. Survival Kits | Emergency Disaster Kit | Red Cross

www.redcross.org › Plan & Prepare › Prepare Your Home and Family
The Red Cross offers these life-saving tips for preparing a disaster kit and survival ...
listand pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, ...

      1. Ultimate Survival Kit | Survival Gear | Backpacker Magazine

        www.backpacker.com/ultimate_survival_kit/gear/12614
Survival Gear: Ultimate Survival Kit .... a day-hike, what to do if you get lost, how to get rescued, and survival packing (the list includes a whistle for every
        hiker!) ...

If you have one make sure you have it up to date. "We" should go through it on a regular basis. Make sure nothing is out of date. Keep it current. You know your meds etc.

Maybe this is only one night away from the madness of winter but it's one day closer to the out door season. Don't get caught with your pants down. Take some time now and be prepared for the "what if's". It may save your life".....

Soon I will have more on the 2013 wildfire season. Stay tunes"......
