The waiting game!

In some parts of the western United States fire season has began. There are some fires doing what fires do. Here in region 6 there has been fire on the ground. It has started early in some parts of the region.

In case you are wondering region 6 covers Oregon and Washington state.

In some cases the work has started in some parts of region 6. For the rest of us we are playing the waiting game. Waiting to go to work. All of our preseason preparation is done and we are just waiting to go to work.

We could get a dispatch at any time, or it could be a week from now. Either way we will be ready to go when we get the call.

We are excited to go out to work. And this year we have the opprutunity to go to Utah, Southern Idaho, the extreme north end of Arizona, and a sliver of Wyoming. This is known in the fire world as Region 4.

It is some very vast, but beautiful country.

As always I will bring back the ever popular fire season as it happens. I will have pictures as well as the inside scoop of whatever fire that I am on. So I hope you enjoy following "Fire Season 2014".

Check back often because we may be dispatched at any time.......until then we play the waiting game.

Fire season?

It's early June and central Oregon has already been on fire. Is this a fluke or is this a warning of things to come?

The City of Bend received a reprieve. Had the wind shifted towards Bend things may have gotten bad really really fast. Thankfully that didn't happen. Was this a warning of things to come this fire season? Only time will tell.

However out here In the NE corner of the state we were hammered with heavy rain. The once crunchy ground is now quiet and soft.

Does the recent rain mean the season isn't going to be as bad as we thought? It's a good thought. But let's not kid ourselves, this summer could be a nasty monster, or it could be a dud. Only time will tell.

In 2004 for instance it looked like it was going to be a long fire season, however the lightning that normally starts the fire ended up being accompanied by lots of rain. The fire season never happened. Other seasons lasted for many months.

Let's not try to outguess ourselves, there will be some fire this year. If not then the next year, or the next one. Sooner or later there will be a bad fire season. While this may be a historical fire season lets hope it isn't a deadly on. We don't want to have any lose homes, property, or especially lives.

So to those who will hit the fire lines, be safe! Don't risk your lives for anything. Make sure you go home to your loved ones. To those who's property and homes are being protected by the firefighters, please don't needlessly put our people in danger. If you are asked to evacuate please go. Let's not lose anyone this season!

So no mater what happens, fire or not, rain or heat, let's stay safe out there. Sooner or later it will come. That being said, be ready and be safe.

The truth is......

It has been a while since I have put anything up on this blog. The truth is I have been really busy and have not been able to afford to devote the time to the blog. My family is much more important. However that doesn't mean I am giving up on the blog. I am not....

As you may have seen on the news, fire season is early. Really early. So that being said I will have my regular and always popular fire updates. Maybe I will call it "from behind the fire lines". I will post pictures of the fire I am on as well as the inside scoop. Stay tuned for more.

The truth is I have been disappointed by the amount of traffic I have had on this blog. It was great for a while and then it suddenly dropped, off  the face of the earth. I suppose it wasn't interesting enough or sexy enough. Maybe people just don't have time to check it out.

I have decided I will try to keep it up and running through fire season and if the blog doesn't pick up enough hits per day then I will disband it. So again if you like my blog please spread the word and let's increase the hits it gets. If we can get 100,000 hits by September 1st I will keep it up and running. If not......we'll as much as I hate to I will close it down.

Let's see if we.....you and me can keep the blog alive. Spread the word. Pass it on! With your help we can make this a huge success.

This summer promises to be a wild and crazy fire season, so don't miss out on the inside scoop. Check back every now and then ,and you will see the crazy season first hand from our crew.

Keep the faith! Be safe!

Travis.
