Lost Tip #4

Landmarks can also be a long distance away. They can still be a good to find where you are.
A meadow across the canyon

The hills in the distance.

As you are hiking notice large landmarks such as buttes mountain peaks.Observe them as you walk along. How far away you are how they change in relation to your movement.Do they get closer, farther. How does the angle of them change, notice how they change in apperance in relation to where you are and in comparision to where you were a half mile, mile, later down the trail. These can help jog your trail memory.[The small landmarks].
